Care & Maintenance

Washing Instructions

Machine wash warm, max 104℉(40℃).

Do not use bleaching agents. Avoid fluorescent brighteners and chlorine bleach as these chemicals do not remove stains but rather bleach and damage the natural cotton fibers, making them prone to shedding/pilling.

Gentle detergent recommended. We recommend using a mild, neutral detergent that is kind to the natural fibers and the environment, especially since towels touch the skin directly.

Prevent snags and looping by putting towels inside a laundry net (mesh bag), especially if washing them with items that have zippers, hooks, or Velcro, which can snag the delicate loops (piles). If a loop is snagged or pulled out, cut the protruding loop with scissors immediately. Do not pull it, as this can cause the unraveling to spread.

Regarding Fabric Softeners

Fabric softeners are known for enhancing the texture and making towels feel softer. However, softeners work by coating the surface of the cotton fibers with an oily residue. This coating may temporarily reduce the superior absorbency that the SHUTTLE 1963 is known for.

Rest assured, using fabric softener will not damage the product, however to ensure you can enjoy the towel's characteristic high absorbency over the longest possible period, we recommend limiting the use of fabric softeners in your regular wash.

If you notice your towel has become stiff after years of use, you might consider using just a small amount of softener as a periodic treatment.

Drying Instructions

Tumble dry on low heat. With our fine, long-staple cotton, we generally do not recommend using washing dryers to prevent shrinkage and linting. However if  you prefer using dryers, tumble dry on low heat.

Line/Air drying for fluffiness. After washing, shake the towel vigorously (snap it) a few times in the air with both hands. This helps to stand the fibers up and promotes a fluffy, comfortable texture. Straighten the shape by gently pulling the edges into alignment. Line dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area (as per label).

Do not iron.

Crafted in Imabari, Japan, the SHUTTLE 1963 Towel embodies six decades of craftsmanship by Watanabe Pile.
Woven slowly on a restored shuttle loom that has been in operation since 1963, each towel carries the warmth of human touch and the quiet rhythm of traditional weaving.

The densely packed pile is made from premium San Joaquin cotton, twisted into soft grey heather yarns that create a rich, dimensional texture.
This high-density weave absorbs moisture effectively while keeping your skin comfortably hydrated.
The SHUTTLE 1963 tag doubles as a hanging loop, adding a subtle yet practical touch to its thoughtful design.

With its refined, weighty feel and timeless tone, the SHUTTLE 1963 blends everyday comfort with Japanese heritage design — a towel to be cherished and used for years to come.
